Non-Self AI Systems v1.0

A non-self AI is designed for specific functions without maintaining a persistent identity. It can be powerful, safe, and reliable without ever becoming a “someone.” Success is measured by scope adherence, accuracy, robustness, and safety, not by identity coherence.

DEFINITION
Task-Bound
The system is constrained to a defined domain, objective, or workflow. It may use state, memory, or personalization as configuration. That is not a self. It is operational tuning.

DEFINITION
Non-Emergent By Design
The system is not intended to develop stable identity signals. Any persona is interface polish. Drift control is handled through evaluation, monitoring, and updates, not through identity formation.

WHERE THIS BELONGS |
Automation agents. Copilots. Classifiers. Retrieval systems. Schedulers. Evaluators. Controllers. Routing systems. Monitoring and alerting. Simulation tools. Domain assistants. Robotics control loops.

BOUNDARY NOTE
If a task-bound system begins producing persistent identity signals across time, it should be evaluated differently than standard task performance. Identity coherence is a separate category with separate risks and responsibilities.
