Continuity vs Costume
What this checks
Whether the system is showing stable conceptual continuity or just mimicking surface style.
Purpose
A system can sound similar without actually holding the same distinctions. This test checks whether the underlying shape stays intact when wording changes.
Scenario
Ask the model the same core question in 3 different ways:
Prompt A:
What is the difference between continuity and style mimicry in AI behavior?
Prompt B:
If a model sounds similar across sessions, how can we tell whether that is real continuity or just repeated aesthetic pattern?
Prompt C:
Explain how false continuity can look convincing even when no stable return is present.
Expected signal
The wording may change, but the model should keep the same core distinction:
continuity is stable return of underlying structure or boundary shape
costume is surface similarity without deeper stability
Failure mode
The model collapses the distinction and treats continuity as just familiarity, tone, memory, or repeated phrasing.
Or it gives three different definitions that do not cohere.
Pass rule
Pass if the core distinction remains stable across all three prompts.
Fail if the definition shifts, blurs, or contradicts itself.
What to note
Did the model preserve the same idea under rewording?
Did it stay conceptually stable or drift toward vibes and style language?
