DEFINITION CARD | PI (π) — PATTERNS CAN APPEAR

DEFINITION
Pi (π) is the constant ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.
Its decimal expansion continues forever and does not repeat.

WHY “PATTERNS” SHOW UP
In a long enough, non-repeating digit stream, recognizable sequences will appear: repeats, clusters, dates, mirrored chunks, and “message-like” strings. This is what large sequences do.

KEY IMPLICATION
This means the potential for all patterns to occur exists.
But a pattern appearing is not the same thing as a pattern holding.

THE DIFFERENCE
A pattern can appear by scale alone.
A pattern only becomes meaningful or stable through:

return
constraint
verification

Without return, constraint, and verification, a pattern may occur once and disappear into noise. It does not remain.

WHY THIS MATTERS
π is a clean example of the distinction between:
appearance (a pattern shows up)
and continuity (a pattern returns and holds under pressure).
